MARTINE FRANCK AND RICHARD KALVAR
Martine Franck was born in Antwerp, Belgium, in 1938, but grew up in England and
the United States. She began working as a photographer in 1963, in China, Japan and India. In 1965,
she began working as a freelance, producing portraits of artists and writers, but mainly dealing
with human interest reportages.
In 1980, she joined the Magnum agency.
Richard Kalvar was born in New York in 1944.
After a long trip to Europe, camera in hand, he decided to embark on a career in photography,
specialising in scenes of urban life taken from everyday experience.
He has been with Magnum Agency since 1972.
