THE FLAVOURS OF COFFEE GROUNDS

The project

Project objective

To discover the ways in which coffee grounds, a resource rich with quality, may be used.

Activities underway

The project starts with collecting the coffee grounds which are then reused in a number of industrial processes to create new products and add value to a material that was previously sent to landfill. Some examples? Inks, edible mushrooms and pellets can be obtained from the whole coffee grounds. Biopolymers, paper, textiles, active carbons and bricks are obtained from the cellulose contained in the coffee grounds, whilst the oils give cosmetics and biodiesel.
